The Institute of Chartered IT Professionals (ICITP) launches the Chartered-CIO Council (C-CIO), an inclusive advisory & advocacy council 

for the South African ICT Sector

The inaugural launch which took place in Sandton at Webber Wentzel, on the 16th of October 2019, had in attendance the Industry’s leading experts to initially discuss competency & professionalisation of all IT practitioners in South Africa, the role of a Chartered-CIO at an organisational & national level and the council’s key-focus areas on the Fourth Industrial Revolution in South Africa.

Briefly, the Institute of Chartered IT Professionals (ICITP) is a prestigious Information Technology professional body recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) according to the NQF Act of 2008. ICITP is the only body that can award the Chartered IT Professional, CITP(SA) and IT Certified Professional, ITCP(SA), professional status in the South Africa ICT sector & internationally.

The Chartered CIO Council (C-CIO) chaired by John Bosco Arends ITCP(SA), plays an advisory role to the Institute of Chartered IT Professionals (ICITP) which is the certifying body and custodian for IT professionals in Africa. The council is comprised of CIOs from various industries both public & private, such as insurance, financial & investment services, health, management consultancy, transportation, manufacturing, public services, defence & security, retail, construction, local government, agriculture, mining, utilities, ISPs, education & skills development to ensure inclusiveness and adequate representation, so as to establish sector/industry ambassadors from members within the council.

The Chartered CIO Council (C-CIO) will also ensure that professional designations for CIOs are administered by ICITP to ensure that all CIOs are accredited and qualified to perform the practice of a Chartered-CIO & create awareness about the roles, governance, and functions of a CIO, this will bolster the reputation & role the Chief Information Officer (CIO) says chairperson John Bosco Arends ITCP(SA).
